The seismological Research Institute is introducing the second uniform catalogue of all earthquake reported in Sudan from the period 1632 up to 2005. The earthquakes constitute constant threat to human life and property, some time causing major economic losses and disruption. The rapid urbanization development of critical engineering work such as dam nuclear power, industrialization of cities with modern type of building and concentration of populations living or setting in hazardous areas are matters of growing concern, as they contribute to heavier loss of life and increase considerably the cost of disaster damage. The environmental concerns and increased of official and public awareness of earthquake hazard have, in the decade, led rabid rise of interest in seism city, seismic hazard and risk evaluation in all world.
In order to assess the seismic hazard with the certain degree of reliability, an earthquake data of the region must be complete, homogeneous and accurate, so we are introducing this catalogue and we hope it will be useful and help the specialists in Sudan to reduce and evaluate the seismic risk and hazard.
This catalogue is fully and generally sponsored by the National Centre for Research which is highly acknowledged by members of the Seismological Research Institute.
