Training Workshop of Sudan- NCR Researchers on Online Access to SCIENTIFIC INFORMATION Using AGORA, HINARI and OARE Portals

OARE/ HINARI/ AGORA TRAINING WORKSHOP
 
The OARE/HINARI/AGORA training workshop seeks to increase the quality and effectiveness of research in environment, agriculture, health, and related biological and social sciences, which would contribute toward improving environmental sustainability, food security, and health improvement in Sudan and encourage cross disciplinary collaboration between environment, agriculture, and health. The expected outcome of the workshop is to enable researchers having access to high quality, relevant and timely information on agriculture, health and the environment via Internet, CD-ROM and external hard disk as well as disseminating and building Sudan scientific content.

The venue of the workshop is the Documentation and Information Centre DIC, National Centre for Research NCR, Khartoum.

COURSE CONTENT AND STRUCTURE
 
The workshop will be conducted over three days (9-11 November 2008). The workshop course will comprise lectures delivered in a classroom setting, hands-on exercises and group work. Some of the exercises will involve accessing relevant live websites and portals on the Internet and others will be conducted offline. Each participant will have access to a computer during the practical exercises.
 
PARTICIPATION
 
Participants are Senior Researchers of National Centre for Research - Sudan (Professor, Associate Professor and Assistant Professor). The language of instruction is English. It is assumed that all participants have at least a basic appreciation of computers and have used the Internet.

HE Salah Adam State Minister for Science and Technology opened the annual meeting at the Grand Holiday Villa by a speech where he greeted the participants from the various African countries, the guests and the organizers wishing them a successful meeting full of fruitful outcome.

Similar speeches were delivered from the General Secretary of the National Centre for Research, Representative from the Ministry of Health and the organizers; Dr. Intisar Elrayah and Dr. Augustin Ebeja HAT Platform Coordinator

Federation of Arab Scientific Research Councils
 is organizing its 8th Scientific Conference on:
 
Control of Endemic Diseases for Sustainable Development
Aiming at
Healthier Productive Community
 
The conference is open for scientists from Sudan and abroad to submit their papers according to the following:
 
OBJECTIVES
The main objective of the conference is to improve the efficiency of the control of endemic diseases for sustainable development with specific objectives to:
1.       Highlight the biomedical research and its socioeconomic impact on development.
2.       Identify the local resources and development of pharmaceutical industry.
3.       Raise awareness on recent advances in control strategies.
4.       Exchange experience on the control of endemic diseases with regional and international institutions and organizations.
 
THEMES
  1. Research policies, research laws, bioethics and control strategies of diseases.
  2. Endemic and communicable diseases in Sudan and their socio-economic impact
  3. Emerging diseases, control and experience of control in other areas.
  4. Zoonotic diseases
  5. Local resources for disease control
  6. Advances in treatment, chemotherapy and pharmaceutical industries
Note to Participants
  • Request for participation and deadline for abstract submission is April 31, 2007 *.
  • Abstracts (250-400 words) should be sent BY E-mail in addition to a hard copy
  • Authors of accepted papers will be notified by May 15 , 2007.
  • Full text of accepted papers should be submitted BY E-mail on July 1st , 2007.
  • Accepted papers will be published in the Conference Proceedings, moreover, authors wishing to publish their papers in the Sudan Journal of Scientific Research (EL BUHUTH), their papers will be further subjected to peer reviewing.
