Seismological Research Institute

 

Established in 2002 from the former Seismological Research Unit which was established in 1995 with the main objective to conduct research in earthquakes and related sciences.

1. Earthquake hazard assessment of Sudan
2. Catalogue of Sudan seismological activities
3. Geophysical and earthquake activity studies of Bagbag basin
4. Geological and natural studies of Wad Zaki area

1. The institute has working relations with the Geological Research Authority in the field of geological equipment, information and training.
2. Collaboration with the similar research institute in Egypt Jordan and Libya.
3. A working agreement will be effective this year 2004 with the National Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics – Helwan - Egypt.
4. Training possibilities: The institute furnishes small training courses for the staff in software used for seismic information analysis.

Many students and researchers referred to the institute to get information for their work from the library or the previous reports or the field work for some regions which was done by the institute.

Since the Seismological Research Institute is being under the Ministry of Science and Technology care, we are looking for ward to be provided and supplied with the necessaries for instance, the Geophysical instrument and private car, so that the Institute will complete, start and construct the investment programs. Also the institute is waiting aid and support from different organizations and state authorities, to establish another more stations.
